In this fast-paced life, childhood is something we often miss the most. At Redstone, we like to consider that all of our members and visitors can play like kids, a sentiment Isabella Vockeroth Fisher can relate to.
As the daughter of a golf resort owner, Bella grew up building sandcastles in bunkers rather than at the beach, and with a snack in one hand and a nine-iron in the other. She’s gone from playing hide-and-seek among the golf carts to starting her first job as a cart kid. Now, at 18 years old, she’s surpassed cart maintenance and finds herself working at the pro shop or bouncing between customer relations and the kitchen.

“Redstone has been a second home for me because my parents (Cary Fisher and Melannie Vockeroth) were always down here, working hard, so I did a lot of running around, always into mischief, teasing my favourite members, and learning jobs before I even started working,” she says. “I’ve been here basically my whole life, but I can’t complain. It’s a pretty awesome place to grow up.”
Nostalgia on the Fairways
In her final year of high school, Bella kickstarted the inaugural Hawks Nest Crowe Classic. On May 28th, over 100 people signed up to play the tournament fundraiser while extended family and friends of the competitors enjoyed the restaurant and other games underway at the inclusive event. The grad class raised over $5,000 toward graduation expenses, with any remaining funds going back into community initiatives selected by the grad committee.
The 2022 J. L. Crowe Secondary graduate is spending her last summer working on the course before moving to Alberta to study psychology at the University of Calgary. Reflecting on her approximate 15 years “goofing off,” she reminisces about impromptu fashion shows on Ladies’ Night and Men’s Nights, where long-term members would sport the latest fashions the pro shop carried in a catwalk through the clubhouse. That sense of community has been a big part of her upbringing and has shaped her into who she is today.

“I think the most amazing thing for me is how unique we are. We have a pretty old pro shop, which I think is pretty cool; it’s been kind of amazing being able to keep some of the heritage from when Redstone first opened in 1922,” she adds. “It’s incredible how we’ve managed to maintain the well-being of these heritage buildings while elevating the course itself. The sheer beauty of Redstone is something to celebrate, in my opinion; it’s a unique golf course with many different terrains and amazing wildlife. It’s basically like coming to a national park and interacting with the wilderness.”
Work Hard, Play Hard
While she grew up playing golf, Bella admits she finds the sport equally frustrating and intriguing.
“I enjoy the freedom that golf has compared to other sports,” she shares. “It can be a bit looser or slightly more conservative; it just depends on who’s playing. Honestly, I love all the different kinds of people that can play; it’s a pretty inclusive sport. Whether you have some disability, you’re slightly older, or you’re really young, almost anyone can play. It doesn’t matter if you’re good or bad – you can still participate. I think that’s one of my favourite things about golf.”
In their true family Father’s Day tradition, Bella foresees brunch with Dad before hitting the course, a pastime they’ve always enjoyed together, even if Bella feels she needs to work on her game.
Luckily for her, her parents raised her to have a strong work ethic, a characteristic that will carry her into this next chapter of life.
“My dad is probably one of the hardest working people I’ve ever met. Even though we sometimes bicker, I’m grateful that I’ve taken that on from him,” she says. “I don’t think it’s always recognized just how incredibly hard a lot of people work. I definitely see that some people haven’t been taught that or haven’t been able to gain those experiences, but seeing how hard he’s always worked has been a huge takeaway for me that has thankfully paid off.”
